Latest Updates
Welcome to the Industry! Hurry up and wait! Unexpectedly, all of our locations backed out of the production of The Mourner at the last minute. Despite this apparent setback, we are not discouraged! Though scheduling will have to wait, it is because of other productions taking place. Type 40 Pictures has been asked to take part in the production of a science fiction comedy being filmed in Atlanta. It is currently in pre-production, with writers' meetings taking place about once a month. We'll know more about it after Christmas.
As for actual Type 40 stuff, we are getting very good feedback from the industry concerning our original scripts, all of which provides encouragement for the actual production of all of our films.
We look forward to seeing you next month with more (and better!) news! Until then, take care! Updated November 5, 2009, 5:16 pm First Shoot
The Mourner shoot will take place 16, 17, 18, 24, and 25 Oct.
This is fabulous news! Working in conjunction with Independent Alliance, an indy production company from Atlanta, Type 40 Pictures will film on location in Macon, GA.
In preparation, I took some test shots of Colin Penndorf, The Mourner. Here is one of those images.
Also, work continues on the Mourner graphic novel. Once everything is ready, Type 40 will offer the Mourner pro package: DVD, graphic novel, and t-shirt bundled as a single package!
How cool does that sound?
Updated September 18, 2009, 2:01 pm News Update Things are in motion. What things? Well...
The Mourner requires a high school lunchroom and two classrooms, a football team, a cheerleading team, an ambulance, and an emergency room.
(Some information.. in addition to being an independent filmmaker, I am also a middle school teacher.)
My principal loves the idea of showcasing our lunchroom and classrooms in an indy film. Three obstacles down.
One of my students from last year participates in a competition cheerleading rwam. I e-mailed her coach. He looks forward to working with us! Another obstacle gone.
One of my sixth graders asked me what good an English degree is. I started telling him and the rest of class about my book and my script writing, including that I needed an ambulance, One raised hid hand and said, "You know that's what my dad does, right? He's the director of emergency services at the hospital." One e-mail and a phone call later, I have probable access to an ambulance and a fake ER! Wow!
At lunch the other day, one of my seventh graders looked at me for no reason and said, "My dad is the head coach at the high school," which is awesome, but, later that day, as my kids sat quietly in the media center, a man walked in and asked for gis son. I asked who he was and he told me... yes! The head coach at the high school! I spoke to him right then. We have a football team!
All obstacles out of the way!
Of course, in later years, I will take all the credit as the producer, but, until then, I give credit where it belongs- to my school, my students, and blind luck! Updated September 4, 2009, 12:59 pm

Dateline- 1 Aug 2009 Macon, GA
Things are in motion.
What kinds of things? Well, The Mourner, for one. We've got a production schedule and will be finished with principle photography by Dec. That's a good thing.
Another good thing- while sitting in a restaurant in Macon, I figured out exactly how the four stories need to fit together! So, in addition to The Mourner, Type 40 Pictures will be producing at least three other short features that will be combined into a montage film similar to Creepshow and Twilight Zone: The Movie. The other three stories are also some of my own short stories and include one vampire, one messiah, and one folk tale. There may be one other story from one of our other writers. I'm hoping there's time for it.
We've also talked with a group of independents down in Florida and look forward to working with them to produce their work- science fiction and comedy... it doesn't get much better than that!
Expanding on plans for The Mourner, Type 40 Pictures, in partnership with independent publisher Chaos Enterprises, Inc., will be producing the limited edition graphic novel based on the short story. Artists Lindsay Archer and Taylor Darnell are currently onboard.
Another exciting development is the creation of the Type 40 Pictures educational foundation. I can't say much, yet, but even my attorney is excited. In fact, he took me out to lunch after that meeting! Yeah, he's hyped!
All in all, it's been an amazing month, and I look forward to sharing more news with you as Type 40 Pictures grows and produces and releases its films!

New independent film production company, Type 40 Pictures, LLC, opened its intellectual doors today in a flurry of imaginary pre-Fourth fireworks. Founder Howard Scott had this to say about the fledgling company:
"We have a vision. We want to become the go-to company for independent film-makers in the Southeast and, eventually, the country. Writers, directors, producers, actors, actresses, and production crews can come to us with ideas and expect to be heard and understood by industry professionals wanting to listen."
Type 40 currently has three projects on tap, one short feature and two feature-length films, all taking place in "the same world," according to Scott.
"One thing people will notice about our initial films is that, though not necessarily interconnected, they could be. One consistent, fictional world, with an obvious collaboration taking place between all parties involved in the execution of the projects. We are going to produce quality work from quality material. We will not do anything second rate. We can't afford to. We have to show that we can do this all the right way! And we will!"
